Keeper features:

In Lightning Leagues Keeper format, you can carry over players from year to year — but with a strategic twist. Our proprietary Keeper Points system (KPS) allows keeping players simple, fair, and competitive. No more worries about what round you cannot draft

Keeper System Summary

  • Each offseason, managers may keep as many players as points will allow.
  • Each player is assigned Keeper Points based on key variable data points
  • Lower Keeper Point totals = easier to retain. High-value stars become more “expensive” to keep long-term.
  • Players kept are excluded from the following seasons draft pool

Key Keeper Timelines

  • Keeper Declarations: Submitted by June 15 each year.
  • Keeper Costs Released: Within approximately 3 months after the championship week.

Keeper Point Cap Adjustments:
Lightning Leagues reserves the right to slightly adjust the team Keeper Points cap each offseason to maintain competitive balance.

Keeper Points Rules

  • Each team has a total Keeper Points allowance of 20 points.
  • Each player’s Keeper Point cost is listed at the end of the season.
  • If you exceed your team’s Keeper Points cap, you must release players until you’re compliant.

Keeper Points increase by one [1] point each year kept for players kept across multiple seasons.

Example

Player
Keeper Points
Jayden Daniels (QB)
8
De’Von Achane (RB)
6
Zay Flowers (WR)
5

Total:
19/20 Keeper Points — team can keep all three

Why does a Points-Based Keeper System Beat Traditional Systems?

1. Simplicity Drives Participation
  • No complicated draft round penalties, no endless spreadsheets.
  • Managers can instantly understand what it “costs” to keep a player.
  • Easier = more players stick around year after year.
2. Strategic Depth Without the Confusion
  • Players must balance their roster within a points cap — encouraging real strategic decision-making without needing advanced math or experience.
3. Future-Proofs the League
  • Traditional keeper leagues sometimes fall apart when draft pick penalties or contract rules get too messy over time.
  • A points system scales cleanly as the league ages.
4. Rewards Good Drafting and Smart Management
  • Breakout stars who cost fewer points give savvy managers a true advantage — but superstars eventually cost more, ensuring fresh turnover.
5. Levels the Playing Field
  • No team can hoard elite players forever — Keeper Points naturally prevent long-term dynasties from becoming boring and unbeatable.
6. Enhances Offseason Engagement
  • Reviewing Keeper Points and making offseason decisions keeps managers invested all year long — not just during the draft.
